Re: Region D Football schedules
Yeah they "could've" but they wouldn't have. If they would have played Clintwood again late in the year when Clintwood finally figured out what they were doing they would've lost and they would have lost to either Honaker or Haysi if not both. The thing that blows the argument out of the water though is how weak the 3rd and 4th seeds were in D-1. It's crazy to try to compare it. It's like comparing JJ Kelly's baseball team to Pound's. Where have I heard that before?

I was out of town that day, but I know quite a few Cove fans that were extremely proud of the effort that was put forth in that game.
Re: Region D Football schedules
I go on results. Appy blew Clintwood out of the water last year. Clintwood eliminated Haysi..and PV smacked Honaker. Appy IMO was the better of all of those teams except PV. You can always say "if"...but in the real world "if" doesn't cut it.
Re: Region D Football schedules
I didn't get to see it live...but, I saw the tape of it...Cove put up a good fight IMO.
Re: Region D Football schedules
Yeah I always enjoyed going down to the Cove. We lost down there in my 2nd ever game as a starter in '88 14-12 after we took points off the board on a made field goal(roughing the kicker) and ended up fumbling. I think the Cove went something like 8-2 that season. That is the only loss to the Cove in school history that I'm aware of but there were several close games back in those days. The last 5 or 6 years went really well for Haysi but you are right about the '05 game which was a great one. Made me realize how good Ryan Jones was with him not being in the line up that night.
Re: Region D Football schedules
In your own words "if" doesn't cut it so how can you say Appy was better than Haysi and Honaker? You are doing the same thing. In my opinion Haysi and Honaker were better than Appy. Clintwood had a bad game.
Here is how Vegas would break it down with common opponents:
Appy defeated:
Rye Cove by 12
Clintwood by 32
Ervinton by 26
TPS: +70
Haysi defeated:
Rye Cove by 35
Clintwood by 13(and lost by 1)
Ervinton by 34
TPS: +81
Finding:
Haysi by +11 at home
Haysi by +8 at Appy

Re: Region D Football schedules
RC also won in 00 at Haysi. I remember Matt Rhoton 6'4" 285 running down a Haysi WR or RB about 20 yards downfield saving a TD. That is the only times that I know of RC defeating Haysi as well, but there may be another in there in the past somewhere.
Re: Region D Football schedules
You can try to spin it however you want to...but if haysi was in th D1 playoffs last year, they would have been the 3rd best team in it..or honaker either for that matter.
Re: Region D Football schedules
Good stuff. Thanks for the info Edwards. I was living down in Atlanta in '00 and didn't get to catch that one. I hope that the series will resume at some point down the road.
Re: Region D Football schedules
Looks like I'm not the only who bets. Somebody knows about the 3 pt's home teams are generally given in the spread. Of course Appy is a grind it out team, doesn't really put that into it. There not built on putting a ton of sports on the board.
